Judge Krater told me one of the practical jokes that was played on him while he was on the air:

He had just pulled some headlines of the AP wire, to read as teasers into the news. He said the page was quite long, hanging to the floor. Another DJ lit the paper on fire at the other end while he was reading it on the air. When he realized it was on fire, he said he didn't skip a beat. He finished reading the headlines, turned off the mike & put the fire out.
